Kaleidoscope

I recently got this skirt from the Topshop sale, and I'm totally loving the myriad of colours it has. I've been having a fetish for crazy prints + bright colours, and I suppose that's just my way of celebrating the summer season. I'm wearing the skirt with my cold shoulder top and boots from Korea and silver clutch from H&M.

On a side note, the Great Singapore Sale has started, and I really need to hit the sales sooooon!

Paisley Pusher

Wore this when I hit the H&M sale last week. I'm loving the paisley print on my J.W. Anderson NEWGEN Topshop tee.

Tee: J.W. Anderson NEWGEN Topshop, Shorts: Vintage, Sandals: H&M, Satchel: H&M

J.W. Anderson is fast becoming another of my favorite British designers for his reinterpretation of shapes and silhouettes using unexpected fabrics. Here are 5 fast facts about this up and coming young british designer:

1. J.W. Anderson was born in Northern Ireland.
2. J.W. Anderson originally wanted to pursue a career in acting. While studying drama he discovered a love for stage costume and went on to study menswear at the London College of Fashion.
3. His style tip - Liberate the Pajama
4. All his prints are made in England
5. His describes his ideal client as 'free'.

Oh and did I mention that he's extremely cute too?

Topshop A/W 2011 Fashion Showcase

Fir and I attended the Topshop A/W 2011 Fashion Showcase last Friday. The party was held outside Ion Orchard, taking up one side of the mall's exterior. Curious onlookers peered over the barricades trying to get a glimpse of the party grounds. Within the party grounds was a bevy of good-looking and well dressed fashion mavens who served as great people-watching subjects.

The organisers of the party had thoughtfully prepared condiments and booze for their guests, keeping them cool and calm before the show. Fir and I helped ourselves to some refreshing alcohol ice cream and then proceeded to squeeze our way through the throngs of people who had flocked around the runway. What I overheard in the bathroom earlier, was a model exclaiming, 'Did they really invite 600 people?' And it sure felt like it, as Fir and I were sandwiched on both sides. Luckily, we managed to find a spot where we had a decent view of the runway. I secretly congratulated myself for wearing 4 inch heels which gave me some viewing advantage. Of course, I still had to raise my camera over the heads of the audience so I could get some pictures. The brazen things I do for a good shot.

The showcase started with a preview of Topman's A/W 2011 collection. The men's range featured heritage inspired pieces, such as tweed, herringbone and folkloric patterned knits. The injection of functional details for the outerwear and key statement jackets prevented the entire collection from looking too old and tacky. The result was a collection that had an air of class but did not diverge too far from Topman's main target segment - young men.

Topshop's collection was next and it featured several key pieces from Topshop Unique's line. There was a return to the 1930's, 40's and 60's, with Topshop Unique focusing on the 1930's American glamour with boucle pieces and Dalmatian inspired prints. It was playful, bordering on cute as the models strutted down the runway in jumpsuits and sweaters with Dalmations printed on them. The American glamour was found in more of the evening wear pieces.

These were two of my favorite pieces - a silver dress with cutouts at the waist and a long black dress with faux fur trimming on the sleeve. It reminded me of Cruella Deville in 101 Dalmations, albeit a prettier version of what she would wear.

The main line featured retro pieces from the 1940s and 1960s, kooky looking knitted-wear and playful vintage prints. To enforce the retro trend were calf-length skirts paired with Peter Pan blouses and stockings.

Kudos to the models for looking so cool under layers and layers of wool sweaters. It was a very warm and humid evening, and I can vouch for that as I was sweating like a pig. I was amazed that the models still looked so pristine after the show.

After the showcase, the guests were given first dips - the privilege to view Topshop's new collection before everyone else. To sweeten the deal, Topshop gave all attendees a 20% discount. Most guests made a beeline for the store, and the models were stationed enroute. The models themselves enjoyed a lot attention as everyone stopped to take photos with them. The male models were a hit with the ladies. This one below exclaimed, 'I've become famous! These girls won't let me go!' before being dragged away by his fellow model.

Once again, it was another great party organised by Topshop. They had the food, the models, the great DJ spinning and even staff stationed around the party with their iPads, tweeting in real time. We could really use more parties like this.

Set on you: September

This September I've got my eyes set on...

1. The PS1 is in my opinion, the epitome of classic it-girl cool. Worn over the shoulder or carried by the handle, this covetable style will stamp every look with urban glamour.

2. Block heels are the way to go, and ASOS' PATIENCE peep toes with its suede look upper and bow details is subtly feminine.

3. Really, who needs gloves in Singapore's heat? But I adore this pair of leopard print gloves from H&M so much that I'd wear them regardless of the climate.

4. Topshop's ring reminds me of a sunken treasure at the bottom of the ocean. Don't you think the gold plated trimmings remind you of corals? And who knew that green stone, tortoise shell and gold could look so chic together?

5. Aficionados of directional style will love Kelly Wearstler's handcrafted brass bangle studded with bold pyrite cubes. Wear it solo or stacked with other tough-luxe pieces to inject everyday looks with utility cool. In case you didn't know, Kelly Wearstler is responsible for the iconic look of the Viceroy hotels, the author of three beloved books, and her incredible interior design work is feted in all the best magazines. This fall, she'll be bringing her unique, oft-emulated vision to the fashion world with her 80-piece ready-to-wear collection, all available at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Net-a-porter.

New Designer Collaborations

If you thought that the first half of 2011 was a little subdued with no hyped up designer and high street label collaborations or long queues outside high street stores, you might want to gear up for the second half of 2011 which is going to be a lot more exciting.

If you haven't already heard, Versace is going to be designing for H&M! The collection which is slated to be the quintessential Versace collection, think studded leather and colourful prints, is going to hit the stores in November. If we're lucky enough, our first H&M might just be open then, and we can get our hands on some of these very juicy looking dresses...

Word has been going around that Galliano will be doing a collection for Topshop. And while the whole fashion world is still speculating on whether this is true, I'm hearing that this is set to be the biggest collaboration ever, overshadowing H&M's tie up with Lanvin, Lagerfeld and McCartney. So is it going to be another Kate Moss-esque range, but ten times more drool worthy? I can't wait to find out.

Trending @ Topshop

Fal and I have casted our votes and here's Fal's choice trend for the summer. Swedish Summer. This style brings us back to the whimsical 70s, to the folk tales, to the lazy countryside with dirt paths and vast green meadows. Whip out the crochet accessories, denim dungarees, floral prints, white fabrics and washed leather and have fun mixing and matching these together for a laidback, romanticised outfit.

Take a trip down to snake valley and you'll see snakeprints, paisley prints, feather details paired with fringed leather and washed out suede. This is no look for the timid as the snake valley girl is tough, daring and free spirited. I like this tough, hardcore and take-no-nonsense personality but I have a slight aversion to snakeprints. I did mention in passing to Fal that a combination of snake valley with swedish summer would be fun too; some dream catcher accessories with some tie-dye chiffon and frayed denim with worn brown leather.

Nomad on the other hand, is more forgiving than the tough love from the Snake Valley bad-ass. There's more white but kept edgy with metallic accessories and printed tee shirts. I've got my eye out for the Zodiac Symbol T-shirt because of a sudden renewed interest in star signs (haha), triggered by eager friends (Twitter addicts no less) retweeting ZodiacFacts, some of which are pretty accurate.

What I like most about this season is the liberty that one can take with prints. Every collection has seen an abandonment of rules with prints and the season has shown just how interesting and fun mixing and matching can be. To learn more about to latest collections at Topshop, you can pick up a complimentary Topshop magazine when you're there for some shopping the next time.

Of course lots of tough love could go your way if you take this look overboard. Or any other style for that matter. Fret not! If you're intending to buy your clothes from Topshop then just send your S.O.S. to Topshop's Personal Shoppers. This is one of the concepts Topshop pushed on Saturday to complement their fabulous collections. Topshop takes its cue from the luxury fashion labels and starts tailoring not only the clothes but its service to the customer (us). What this does is add a personal touch to the high street label, enhancing the in-store experience. These days when shopping online on wildly popular sites like ASOS is so easy and convenient (free shipping!), what differentiates the physical store from the online experience is firstly, the attention to sensory detail and secondly, the so-called human 'touch'. Personal shopping is this human element that is important aside from all sensory fulfillment which is what we see, hear, feel and smell such as the aesthetically pleasing store, background music and luxurious fabrics. The personalised treatment makes anyone feel like a VIP and such a personalised human element in the physical store is certainly a new concept for high street brands; Zara, the most popular high street brand by far, does not offer anything like this.

Oh of course, how could I forget the sandals that I am stalking/lusting after from Topshop UniQue.

Breakfast at Topshop

In 1961, there was Breakfast at Tiffany's. Fast forward 50 years to 2011, and we have Breakfast at Topshop. Topshop has perhaps become another haven where many ladies spend their time, wandering through aisles of covetable clothes, bags, shoes and accessories.

On Saturday, Fir and myself had a chance to do this first thing in the morning. And no, we did not spend it peering through the shop windows, eyeing the pieces on the mannequins with envy, Audrey Hepburn style. Instead, we were invited to the Topshop Personal Shopper Breakfast Event.

The highlights of the event included a short talk by Anny Lin, Personal Shopper at Topshop Knightsbridge. She took guests through the latest trends and collections in Topshop this Spring/ Summer. There was also a guest appearance by style maven, Ginette Chittick, who gave us her insights on what her style is all about. It was definitely inspiring to see her in the flesh and to get a better sense of her style. Unfortunately, we were stuck at the back of the crowd and could not get a better view!

Accompanying the talk was breakfast which came in the form of pastries, scones, fruit tarts as well as very delectable trays of chocolates. And of course, there's no better way to start a morning than having a nice cuppa coffee while checking out the latest pieces that have hit the shelves of Topshop Knightsbridge.

Of course, no fashion event is without its share of fashionable people. Here are a few of my choice picks.

Fir's friend, Gen, doing some shopping!

And who can forget Topshop's Personal Shoppers who can help you transform your wardrobe from drab to fab? We managed to get a shot of Anny in her outfit here, and if her outfit isn't proof enough of great fashion sense, we strongly suggest you make an appointment at Topshop Knightsbridge with her!

Thank you Topshop for the invitation to this great event! We definitely had a good time!

Koma for Topshop

David Koma's designs have been seen on celebrities such as Cheryl Cole and Beyonce, and soon, they'll be seen on the racks of Topshop UK. The designer which graduated inCentral Saint Martins college, also won the college's Best Womenswear Collection in 2007.

His current collection for Topshop features bodycon silhouettes embellished with cylindrical silver detailing, so that every piece exudes a sexy, modern and feminine vibe . Staying true to the luxe element of Koma's work, only premium fabrics and Koma's signature shapes as well as metalwork will be used. What's more, the collection is very exclusive, comprising of only 5 styles with just 30 pieces available for each of them.

Fingers crossed that this collection will hit Singapore's Topshop outlets too!
