March on

Knit tank top and shorts - H&M, Military vest - Korea, Sandals - Marni x H&M

Life's been slow, and time's been passing slowly, too slowly for my liking. My outfits too, have been a reflection of life in general, I'm always in the most laid back of outfits, and here's me in one of my laziest of weekends.

Smile like you mean it

My new 'Make me smile' dress from Aussie label, Finders Keepers has a very apt name since it put a smile on my face when it arrived in the mail. The dress is a combination of all my favorite things, it has just the right mix of  sports luxe, with the mesh detailing in the front and back, and soft femininity since it's chiffon and draped.

I'm wearing it here with a military vest and my new heels.

Kaleidoscope

I recently got this skirt from the Topshop sale, and I'm totally loving the myriad of colours it has. I've been having a fetish for crazy prints + bright colours, and I suppose that's just my way of celebrating the summer season. I'm wearing the skirt with my cold shoulder top and boots from Korea and silver clutch from H&M.

On a side note, the Great Singapore Sale has started, and I really need to hit the sales sooooon!

Pep it up

Here's my new peplum t-shirt from H&M. I love how its a peplum in jersey material - so versatile and modern; and I can't wait to wear it with so many other things in my wardrobe!

Peplum top: H&M, Shorts: Zara, Sandals: River Island, Bag: Korea, Necklaces: Korea and H&M

I would also like to introduce the latest addition to my shoe cabinet - a pair of River Island zebra sandals. The silver embellishments are my favourite and I like how the heels are silver plated too.

Into the light

I've been pretty obsessed with the colour white, and I've been wearing it in all shades and variants (cream, off white, you name it).

Chiffon top: ASOS, Jacquard shorts: Zara, Flats: Korea

The jacquard shorts

I'm wearing a pair of jacquard shorts that I bought recently with the chiffon top that Fir gave me some styling advice on. I took her advice and went for a white bottom and it couldn't have looked better. Thanks again Fir!

Oh, and aren't these silver ballet flats lovely? I got them cause they reminded me of pointe shoes (check out those flat tips).

Paisley Pusher

Wore this when I hit the H&M sale last week. I'm loving the paisley print on my J.W. Anderson NEWGEN Topshop tee.

Tee: J.W. Anderson NEWGEN Topshop, Shorts: Vintage, Sandals: H&M, Satchel: H&M

J.W. Anderson is fast becoming another of my favorite British designers for his reinterpretation of shapes and silhouettes using unexpected fabrics. Here are 5 fast facts about this up and coming young british designer:

1. J.W. Anderson was born in Northern Ireland.
2. J.W. Anderson originally wanted to pursue a career in acting. While studying drama he discovered a love for stage costume and went on to study menswear at the London College of Fashion.
3. His style tip - Liberate the Pajama
4. All his prints are made in England
5. His describes his ideal client as 'free'.

Oh and did I mention that he's extremely cute too?

Opposites

Here's what Fir and myself wore for the BOB | Best of British Trunk Show. Fir was all summery in this gorgeous green dress. I love the prints and the belt that she paired with it. She told me that she had no time to think about her outfit and picked out a random pair of sandals and her usual set of chunky bangles to go with the dress. Nevertheless, she still looked so effortlessly cool.

I opted for a simple and monochromatic outfit with a loose-fitting blouse and black chiffon pants, and added a dash of colour with a watercolour clutch.

Back to basics

Lately, I've been running out of ideas for my outfits and finding myself in sort of a major crisis as you can tell from Fir's previous post regarding my SOS letter. I have to thank Fir for helping me salvage some of the pieces from my wardrobe and for being my awesome stylist and advisor when it comes to putting outfits together. In case you can't already tell from the out-of-the-world mood boards that she has done up, Fir has an impeccable sense of style (more so than myself).

So when I go into crisis mode, I go back to my mantra of basics. These are the pieces in my wardrobe that save me when I'm running out of ideas, and here are some of the pieces that I cannot live without.

The denim shorts

I love my denim shorts, and they're so worn that the seams at the hem are starting to come undone. They go with everything, but I'm wearing it here with a button up blouse (another basic), my favorite clutch of the moment and leather + pony hair booties.

White tee + faux leather pants

The white tee is a wardrobe essential, and I'm sure everyone has at least one piece in their wardrobe. I have at least 3, in different cuts, and I'm still collecting more. My white tee and my faux leather pants are a great couple, and the pants help to add edge to any outfit. All I need to do is throw on a bold statement necklace and I'm ready to head out.

Breton striped tee + black dress shorts

I think I've probably worn my breton striped tee to death, but I simply love stripes because they go with all prints to achieve some kind of 'clashing print' effect effortlessly. I am wearing my breton striped tee with my favorite black dress shorts which is yet another necessity in my wardrobe since I am a girl who can't do without shorts. To jazz up the outfit, I throw on a pair of floral ballet flats, arm cuff and clutch.

Denim shirt + denim jeans

My denim shirt is yet another all important basic I can't do without. It's my favorite next to the breton striped tee, because it looks good with florals, animal prints, you name it. And then there's my favorite pair of Cheap Monday jeans. Need I say more? I'm wearing both of them together because denim on denim though big a season ago, still remains effortlessly chic.

Asymmetrical hem tank top + denim jeans + Dr. Martens boots

This is just one of my tank tops out of the gazillion that I have - this is a little more unique because it has a sheer back and an asymmetrical hem. This goes with my denim jeans, a pair of Dr. Martens (great for rainy days) and clutch of the moment.

With a little imagination and very little effort, basics can make an outfit tres chic too!

Boredom

I pulled out clothes and accessories from my wardrobe in preparation for Christmas next week and tried to put together festive outfits. This year, my outfits seem to revolve around glamour - think gold, glitter and sequins. Out of boredom, I decided to play dress-up and attempted (note the word attempted) to create a lookbook of all my potential outfits. Playing on the idea of Christmas morning, the photos try to capture that particular feeling of eager anticipation that most normal people like myself feel on that very special day. Photos will come up tomorrow, but please don't expect much because they're quite ordinary.

For now, here's a (not-so-nice) photo of one of my outfits - a jumpsuit that I made awhile ago paired with my mom's vintage silver belt.

Inspired by Carrie Bradshaw

I bought this tutu skirt on impulse during my stay in Denmark. Thankfully, unlike most of my impulse buys, this one survived the cut. If you have to know, I can be quite methodical when it comes to shopping, following a step by step process to come to my decision.

Yet then again, I can be pretty spontaneous at times and buy stuff on a whim. Anyway, back to the skirt. I spent quite a bit of time pondering what to wear it with, but I eventually decided to go with this grey sweater. The outfit was kind of inspired by Carrie Bradshaw in 'Sex and the City (the movie)'. I paired it with my favorite clutch - I kind of like the way the tough chains and woven fabric of the clutch goes together with the soft texture of my skirt.

Coincidentally, this was one of Carrie's outfits when she was clearing her wardrobe - of what I'm supposing are impulse buys. In this very cute scene, Miranda, Sam and Charlotte hold up signs telling Carrie whether she should toss or keep the items. And yes, you guessed right, she kept the tutu skirt.

Rainy days

The incessant rain has affected my choice of clothing whenever I'm heading out these days. I'm either covered up in long-sleeves or piled up in knitwear. I hardly wear anything too exposed like that of my previous outfit because there's hardly any sun. My footwear of choice? Flip flops (for days when I'm lazy) or boots/ shoes that ensure that my feet stay dry.

Off-duty

Models' and their off-duty look. Its amazing how they can throw on a basic tank top,  a pair of shorts and boots and look fabulous. I have concluded that it is simply impossible to pull off a model's off duty look after attempting it last weekend (picture below, please do not judge me).

Seeing Red

I recently got this pair of Riot Loco pants with a nice leather trimming at the waist in a deep burgundy, and I love how the rich colour adds some dimension to my outfit. On top of that, it's a colour that is perfect for Autumn/ Winter.

You get what you want

I got my hands on this blue H&M top with a lovely peplum pattern and bell sleeves at H&M's opening day. It was also on my wishlist, so I was more than happy when I saw it on the racks at H&M. What I had in mind initially was to pair it with a pair of white pants, but I currently don't have one ( I know its time that I have a pair in my wardrobe), so I went with a pair of waisted shorts and bootie wedges.

Urban Jungle

It was love at first sight when I set my eyes on this silk blend dress/ jacket. This jacket and I were meant to be since it was the last piece left (in my size!) and had a '50% off' tag on it. Can't believe I still had to think twice about buying it. Thankfully, Fir convinced me to buy it, and I'm glad I listened to her.

Potentially dangerous maxi skirts

Here's what Fir and myself wore to the launch of Max Tan's Liquid collection.

Fir opted for a floral maxi skirt with several panels that was slightly sheer. She looked tres cool with her Monki boots and long necklaces. Being very camera shy, she finally gave in to my incessant requests of getting a photo of her - her back, that is.

As for myself, I went for a more monochrome palette, pairing a draped maxi skirt from Lucyd Acyd (one of my favorites!) and a sheer tank from H&M. Topped off the look with a tweed(ish) jacket from H&M and my favorite pair of Modern Vintage sandals.

And if you must know why our skirts were potentially dangerous, we almost had a wardrobe malfunction earlier in the day, with Fir trying to avoid tripping over her very long skirt and myself enduring the tormenting heat under the layers of jersey (I felt like my legs were going to melt whenever I stepped in the sun). That aside, we had a great time together at the launch.

Black, white and the shades in between

Love my new dress from ASOS. The asymmetrical hem adds some interest to the otherwise simple piece, and I love the versatility of this dress. I'm pretty certain that this is going to be a wardrobe staple!

Decided to pair it with a necklace that I bought during my recent trip to Korea.

Summer Nights

I bought this pair of vintage palazzo pants on my recent trip to Korea, and it is one of my most favorite things right now. Love the way the stripes elongate the legs.

Dug out my red vintage bag that I bought from Aarhus, Denmark a year ago to pair with the pants. I'm glad I finally found something that goes great with the bag because I haven't used it all since I bought it.
