Emmanuel, MFW 2011

Day 3 of Men's Fashion Week marked Emmanuel's Fall/Winter 2011 collection debut in Asia, and Fir and myself were lucky enough to be able to attend the show. Emmanuel's collection did not disappoint as it ended MFW’s Day 3 with much needed drama. The collection, aptly titled 'The Illusionist', was sophisticated, seductive and mysterious, reminiscent of magicians of the past.

The collection paid much attention to luxurious fabrics and sharp bespoke tailoring. Fur-trimmed sleeves, chequered velvet elements on suits and a brocade blazer were just some of the things that were incorporated into the classic suit. The models looked suave and elegant in the collection's evening wear which featured cape-lets, vertical stripes that elongated the form and shirts with interesting details.

My favorite look of the night was a toss up between jackets that had cinched waists with tuxedo belts and a gorgeous gold brocade suit.

I loved the unconventional take on the suit. Emmanuel was a great show that lived up to the hype, and definitely a surreal experience for our first ever fashion show.

P.S. Thanks Sheena for the tickets. Much love.

Songzio, MFW 2011

It's been a crazy post-MFW week and I've only just managed to squeeze out just this bit of time for a quick update on my favourite show. Songzio was the clear winner among other contenders such as Emmanuel Ungaro and Dresscamp. The play on volume with architectural details and the use of luxe materials that included different types of wool, cotton, silk, sheepskin leather, microfibre knit and mustang was breathtaking.

Songzio is a South Korean ready-to-wear brand that has been displaying in Seoul, Paris, Japan, Hong Kong and New York. Designer Songzio was inspired by this poem for the Fall/ Winter 2011 collection.

Theme: Red Pine Tree

Gazing at the sky above,

Snow flakes twirling around,

Orchid petals swirling around,

The white blossom melted into his tears.

You, the red blood of pine trees turned pure white.

White into White.

Not that I am a sucker for poetry but it is rather romantic, the way Songzio was inspired. He put a lot of thought into this collection and it definitely did not disappoint. The models were styled with amazing precision that harmonised loose-fitting trousers and voluminous investment pieces with geometrical tops and monochrome tones. Songzio kept things lively with some red pieces that livened the mood of the runway and added character to his collection. I was particularly pleased to see that Songzio did not leave the men out of the trend of flared trousers. Paired with smart men's brogues, neatly studded with metal bits that didn't scream punk-ass but added a hint of edge and attitude, the silouette created was one of futuristic simplicity and not the 70's summer hippie. I loved that. Once again, the footwear. Why do men always have such fabulous shoes?

What I wore...

Wedding celebrations in Singapore usually mean an 8 course Chinese dinner at a hotel of the couple's choice, where entire families gather and sit through the entire ritual up to the final toast (yam-seng!). This can be quite a humdrum at times. However, I recently attended a friend's wedding which was simple and sweet, and of course accompanied by many young lads who made the night a bit more interesting with their drunk antics (there was free flow of booze).

To spice up the night even more, I decided to wear my alphabet print chiffon maxi dress paired with skyscraper heels and a leather cuff. Yes you heard me right, alphabet print. And I love this dress to bits.

Now see if you can read your ABCs, from A to Z.
